100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 89: Keep Your Brain Sharp

ALWAYS Keep Your Brain Sharp.

The vast majority of us are stuck in ruts. We do the SAME thing over and over again. We see the SAME people day in, day out. Eat the SAME food, Go to the SAME Places.

We become MEDIOCRE.

That's not a good thing. When we settle in, we become LAZY. When we become LAZY our brain starts to shut down. It starts to go into minimal life support mode. Only the necessary functions to sustain life are running. Thus the mind starts to go numb.

Before you slip and slide your way into a vegetative state why not do something NEW? Something EXCITING!

Getting yourself into something new will keep your brain working on all cylinders and keep it sharp. Remember, to continually do new things otherwise what is new today will be old tomorrow and that leads to mediocrity and that leads to laziness. So Keep Trying New Things!!!

Thank you,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 86: Learn To Forgive

LEARN TO FORGIVE.

Learning to forgive is something that very many people don't know how to do but DEMAND that others do it without hesitation or reservation. People for some reason find it easy to create and hold on to GRUDGES. Grudges serve no purpose to no one other that the holder. It serves to CREATE more MISERY and ANGER. Nothing good comes from holding a Grudge, as it prevents any good work to be done on the relationship.

I make mistakes all the time. YOU make mistakes all the time. I forgive when someone trespasses against me. YOU CAN FORGIVE when others do something against you. It's called Mercy.

So you can sit there remaining angry at someone who has long since forgiven you or you can join them and forgive and move the relationship to a healthy place (whatever and wherever it may be).

Forgiving also removes undo and VERY UNNECESSARY stress and brings an overall feeling of refreshing renewal. And that's a good thing. And that's when the real healing can begin.

If you have trespassed against me (in some form or fashion) I Forgive You,
Dave

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 83: Be Frugal? (OK, be a little frugal)

Be Frugal?

OK, maybe not too frugal. Learn to be frugal enough in that you are actually saving money. With the increasing cost of food, fuel, and home it can be a little difficult to be frugal. However, with a little work and knowing how and where to look you can find savings in just about anyplace you look or shop.

Now, don't let the economy dictate what you buy and how much you spend for what you buy. There are plenty of fantastic resources out on the internet that are there to help you. I personally could not live without GASBUDDY.COM and all its participants to provide up to date gasoline pricing information, then again I drive a little more often than the regular and the need to find the lowest prices is greater for me. Then again I couldn't tell you if $1.39 for a pound of cucumbers is a good deal.

Also, don't consider yourself as "cheap" or a "cheapskate" remember in these modern times the person who can make the dollar go the farthest is truly the real winner!

Now Go Out There and Save Some Money,

Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 79: Get Your Library Card

Did you know that your local library is a gateway to a world of knowledge?
I'm more than certain you knew that! I am also certain that you know that your Library Card is your passport to that world. So when was the last time you visited your local library?

Remember, back in grade school all the fun you had when you would go to the library? Why not recapture some of that fun and go find all the treasures, at your local library, that you have been missing out.

While you are there be sure to get your library card. It will not only expand your horizons but you will be able to do that at a very reduce price (which in most cases is FREE!)

Thank you,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 78: About The Rubber Band Method

Another method? Yep, this time it's the "Rubber Band Method" and it's gonna STING!

The "Rubber Band Method" is as simple as the Burning Method however...

There's always a HOWEVER.

However, the Rubber Band Method involves wearing a rubber band around your wrist. Here's the STING: Whenever you get ANY negative thoughts you snap that band against your skin.

Do this EVERYTIME and before you know it you will be conditioned to associate pain with the negative thoughts so you start weening yourself of those thoughts in order to avoid the pain.

It may be rough, at first, but when you are no longer snapping that band against your skin you will Thank Yourself  and so will your wrist :)

Till next time,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 77: About The BURNING METHOD

Have you heard of the‘Burning Method’?

If so, are you employing it on a consistent basis?

If you have not heard of it well the Burning Method is real simple.

The Burning Method works best when you have an issue that you have to deal with with and it causes you fear or worry or any form of anxiety.

What you do is next is up to you: You can do this in real life or in your mind.

Write the issue that is causing you fear, worry or anxiety on a piece of paper.

Next, set that piece of paper alight and watch it burn. As the paper burns so goes your fear.

*POOF* a little flame, a little smoke, and some ashes later and there goes your problem.

The next time that issue rears its ugly head in your mind remember that you got rid of it when you burned into non-existence.

IMPORTANT: Please have a Fire Extinguisher close by when using the Burning Method.

Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 76: Focus On Getting Good (on something)

Being Good at Something, anything, is something that everyone should have in their personal bag of tricks.

If it's a hobby all the better because you are having fun doing it. If it's a passion then even better because you are emotionally rooted in that something.

What is that something?

It does not matter what that something is. It can run the gamut of stamp collecting to magic tricks to playing a ukelele and anything in between. Just pick something and be the best in the world.

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 75: Visualize What You Want As Already Yours

Visualize What You Want As Already Yours.

In the book, "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, the author tells the readers one huge secret to success is to visualize on what you want and that is what you get.

So if you see yourself living a healthy lifestyle then making it happen is as easy as pie :)

Seriously, all it takes is daily visualization. Focus on what you want at least twice a day until you condition your subconscious and you develop a habit: a habit of wanting and doing what it takes to get what you want. Once that habit is formed it is there to stay. It is also reassuring to know that habits are so very hard to break.

Thus you keep on visualizing and working to make that visualization a reality gets easier and easier with each passing day. Before you know it, you have got what you wanted.

Thank you,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 74: Arrive Early

Arrive Early.

When was the last time you arrived early for a meeting?

Make it a point to leave 10 minutes earlier than you planned (15 if your destination is more than 20 miles away, 30 if it is an hour or more away).

Arrive early enough to get yourself freshened up or at least to get your mind wrapped around the meeting, event, gathering or whatever you are arriving early for and NOT on the traffic or the obstacles that delayed your arrival.

Thanks,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 73: Go Outside

Spending time outside.

Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall...it doesn't matter what time of year get your butt outside ASAP!

Go to the beach, go to the mountains, go to a park, go for a walk in your neighborhood, it doesn't matter, what does matter is that you get outside and see the real world for what it is: REAL!

Go Outside and Visit Mother Nature (often), she misses you.

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 72: Be A Lifelong Learner

Become a Lifelong Learner.

When you graduate High School or College or Grad School should NOT be the end of your learning.

Continuing your education can be as simple as cracking open a book to taking an online class. Heck, you can sign up for a cooking class at the local community college. Even online webinars can change your life.

So, why not give it a shot and take a chance at learning something new?

Who knows you might just learn something?

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 71: Get to work on an Emergency Fund

Having an emergency fund is something that everyone should ALWAYS either be building up or in place (and then adding more). Those rainy days can happen at any time. Usually, rain days don't always come in the form of a Hurricane just ask the Tornado victims of Joplin, Missouri.

Rainy Days are not always about the weather. They can be a job loss, a mechanical failure of your automobile, or the ruptured water line.

While things are better than the worst thing that could happen start saving. Save what you can, when you can or you can set a goal that goes a little something like this: "In 36 months I will have saved enough money to cover six months of pay."

Half a year's pay is definitely something doable especially if you put your mind and wallet into it. Start as soon as possible, your future self will thank you for it.

Thank you,
Dave Guerra

P.S. I do invite you to join the conversation and tell me what you think about any of the postings so far.

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 70: Cut Yourself Some Slack

We are the inventors of our own DEMISE.

So cut yourself some slack!

As individuals, many of us tend to SABOTAGE our happiness for numerous reasons. For some unexplained reason we create obstacles that make achieving happiness almost impossible. We self-impose rules that are designed to be almost impossible to successfully keep. Then when you can't keep those rules you feel bad and guilty for not doing more, even when you were doing all you could.

So why not ease up on your own rules and on yourself.

Take this subtle reminder from the great Italian sculptor, painter, and architect MICHELANGELO: “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”

Thank you,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 69: About Burning Bridges (Don't Do It!!!)

You've hear the old saying: "Don’t burn bridges"

While many people may be tempted to throw gasoline and fire a flare on that bridge that connects us to the past (past jobs, past relationships, past experiences, you name it).

Like Cortez did when he came to the new world, scuttled his boats (he actually sank them) and making a new life with no turning back. Well, we know how that turned out for Cortez. While there may be a need for "burning bridges" as in Cortez's case, he was trying to prevent further mutiny among the crew.

However, for the most part when you quit your job or end a relationship (within limits) there is absolutely no real need to burn the bridge with that organization or individual(s). Who knows what happens in the future and you might need some kind of assistance from someone in your past. It would be best to keep things civil because the one person that could possibly help you the most might just be the one person you wanted to tell off the most but didn't.

Thank you,Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 67: Pick Your Friends Wisely

Pick your friends wisely.

They say you become like the 5 people you spend the most time with. Well, then I am in VERY GOOD company. What about you?

Do those 5 share your values? or do they tell you that taking the shortcut is the ONLY way to go?

Do they honestly and genuinely want to hear and listen YOU talk about YOUR goals, hopes, and dreams? or are they ONLY concerned about themselves and what you can DO FOR THEM?

Do they ENCOURAGE you to shoot for the moon? or do they tell you that you can't do it so why bother?

Seriously, if the path you want to take for your life is paved with those individuals that only care about the next party, who will be buying the next round, or how to get over on others then you might just be on the wrong path.

If you keep veering off that path and into a dark alley way that you will call REGRET come Sunday morning then it's time to seriously consider removing those who ARE NOT there for you and who ARE ONLY there when you have a ride to offer or a drink to buy.  Even if you know fully well that the behavior may have been somewhat expect of an individual in her early 20s, rest assured it is NOT tolerated NOR expected of a PROFESSIONAL in his late 30s.

However, if you like being dragged into negative behavior like those around you, then I say "good luck to you."

You have to make a choice and YOU have to know that it will be a difficult journey when it comes to picking the right people to have in your life. The path to getting to those friends that will only make your LIFE BETTER may be a lonely path, an uphill climb but eventually you will clear the way for those individuals that will PUSH you up the hill and brace you for that fast downhill course.

Lastly, when it comes to PICKING YOUR FRIENDS don't think of tomorrow or of next week, this friendship is a vacancy you mean to PERMANENTLY FILL.

Thank you,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 65: Write MORE!!!

Back on Day 1, I introduced you to starting a daily journal and if you had been keeping up with that journal you would have a new habit up and running.

So, if you have ever thought about writing a book or a collection of short stories you are well on your way. Continue your daily journal entries and when you are ready the author in you will come shining out.

If you are not writing at least twice a week and you want to be an author well then it's time to kick it up a notch or two. The only way to improve your writing skills is to write MORE and OFTEN.

The only way to write more and often is to MAKE TIME to do it!

Remember to dedicate your first book to me,
Dave Guerra

100 Days, 100 Ways: Day 64: Be Mysterious

Be mysterious.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with pulling a "James Bond". You don't have to show your cards to everyone you meet. You don't have to tell people that you like your martini's shaken and not stirred.

Keep them guessing just a LITTLE bit.

Be careful because sometimes it is quite easy to alienate yourself from others.

Thank you,
Dave G.
