Oblate comes from the Latin word Oblatus which means "one offered up".

Please do not confuse OBLATE with the word MARTYR. They are two different words.

One word has heroic like connotations and the other is just sad.

OBLATE is "a lay person connected with a religious order or institution and living according to its regulations"

The hero is the one that stepped up without any intent on recognition and did what they felt they had to do.

The modern-day martyr demands recognition for what they did, all the while being completely oblivious to the fact that what they did, they were supposed to be doing all along.

Be the hero and never the modern-day version of a martyr. They are so unbecoming.
