ANOTHER TUESDAY NIGHT WITH LOLLY DASKAL (@lollydaskal)

Every Tuesday evening from 8pm EST to 9pm EST for the past few months, I have been a willing participant of a Twitter.com Tweetchat with Consultant, Coach, Speaker, Founder of #LeadFromWithin, and Author of the book, "Thoughts Spoken From The Heart", Lolly Daskal.

These Tweetchats are insightful, thought provoking, and generate genuine conversation. Hundreds, if not thousands, of Twitter members join the conversation every Tuesday night.

Each week, it is a different topic. Our host, Lolly Daskal, over the course of the hour will post 10 questions, which end with the hashtag #LeadFromWithin. Every participant is encouraged to respond to the 10 questions. The responses are UNIQUE, INSIGHTFUL, & FANTASTIC!  You have to read them (well, as many as you can) as they go flying by your Twitter feed.

I invite you to join us every Tuesday evening for the tweetchat and throughout the week be on the lookout for the Twitter hashtag #LeadFromWithin

On the evening of Tuesday, March 4, 2014, the topic was HOW TO SELL YOURSELF W/O SELLING. Here are the questions as posted by Lolly Daskal and my answers. Cheers!
-----

Q1: What is the purpose of self promotion? #Leadfromwithin
A1. Self-promotion shows the universe that among all the stars out there you have a UNIQUE purpose, vision, and mission #LeadFromWithin
Comment: When you promote yourself you have to do what it takes (within reason) to stand out from all the other STARS in the universe.
-----

Q2: What is the great misconception about selling yourself? #Leadfromwithin
A2. Greatest Misconception is that selling yourself means is a big NO-NO. If you do not sell yourself who will? #LeadFromWithin
Comment: Someone has to be the first to sell you. You are that person. When you were hired for that first job, when you made that first sale, when you stepped up and said “I CAN DO IT”
-----

Q3: What is the benefit of strategic visibility?
A3. The benefit of strategic visibility is that you are seen without being all in their face about it. #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: Never forget the true objective: They get the message and not the messenger. You do know what happens to the messenger when people don’t like what they hear?
-----

Q4: What are some self promotional personalities? #leadfromwithin
A4. The Quiet One: Their actions and deeds will speak volumes. #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: There are many personalities out there. However, when it comes to self promotion the personality that gets all the attention is the one who’s reputation precedes him.
-----

Q5: What is the difference between bad and good self promotion?
A5. It is all Good until you start then it can only get better or worse. The point is to get out there and do it and learn from mistakes & successes #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: In most cases, you won’t know if your self promotion is good or bad until you actually try it. Once you put your self promotion into action when things do or don’t work is when you get your answer. Otherwise, it is all a bunch what-ifs.
-----

Q6: What are some self promotion tips?
A6. Give good customer service from beginning to end and beyond! Employee & Customer Satisfaction will be the best self promotion #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: Giving good customer service to both internal and external stakeholders is the best way to get your reputation to precede you. Take care of them and they will take care of you.
-----

Q7: How can one sell themselves without selling out? #leadfromwithin
A7. You sell yourself by remembering this: “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.” –Casey Kasem #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: The key to this is to remain humble, always know where you been, and know exactly where you are going. Any deviation from this and selling out will be the least of your problems.
-----

Q8: Why are leaders not comfortable with the concept of self promotion?
A8. They are not comfortable because true leaders want the light on the team and not the individual. #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: Great Leaders spend all their time and energy cultivating a successful team that when the spotlight is cast on one individual, discomfort appears within the leader. For so long, his focus has been to lead the collective and not several single individuals to achieve a common goal or task. When the spotlight happens to fall on the leader, most cannot deal with it. Some, if not most, feel that they are betraying the team because the attention is on the leader and not the team that made the leader great.
-----

Q9: what are some techniques you can use to self promote?
A9. Stand Tall, look people in the eye, firm handshake, genuine smile, say HELLO, and the rest is easy. #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: When it comes to self promotion, the simplest things are by far the most effective.
-----

Q10: How can heart and self promotion connect? #Leadfromwithin
A10. When done with authenticity self promotion comes from the heart and thus is always connected #LeadFromWithin
COMMENT: Remaining true to yourself in what you do will ensure that what you bring to the table, any table, will yield the expected return. No ifs, ands, or buts!

Thank you,
Dave Guerra
